On 10th December, IsDB held the inaugural Transformers Summit in Cambridge, UK. At the Islamic Development Bank, we believe that investing in science, technology, and innovation is a key driver in addressing growing demand for housing, energy, clean food, transportation infrastructure and societal services. Through the Transformers Summit, IsDB aims to review successful initiatives, policies and innovative solutions for better cities, healthier lives and prosperous futures. The event was a huge success and brought together innovators and industry experts. The day was organised around panels and Q&A sessions on various topics including sustainable transport, education and environmental sustainability. The Transformers Summit 2018 created a forum for sharing ideas and initiatives through panel discussions, talks, debates and workshops. Speakers from leading organisations such as the UN Foundation, UNICEF and Rockefeller Foundation were featured in the series of interesting talks throughout the day. Richard Curtis, Filmmaker and Founder of Project Everyone, delivered a key note speech and Q&A with Matthew Freud, Founder of freuds. He described the SDGs as “a way to unite our best intentions” and that in order “to make things happen, make something of your own which makes a difference”. The recipients of the first Transform Fund, our Transformers, were also featured throughout the event, with some of them addressing the crowd in short pitches about their innovative work. Through the support of ISDB, they had several networking and learning opportunities, as part of the Summit.
